“Helping Out My Competitor”

“Helping Out My Competitor”

Would you be willing to talk with me on the phone or meet again to help me get my blogging going? I'd really appreciate any direction and advice you can share.

Of course I would be willing to assist another loan officer; the sad part about it is that his manager says the only way to get new business is to knock on Realtors doors. Something I have never done nor have any of our loan officers. The manager doesn’t believe in any kind of social media as he says it needs to be done the old fashion way.

Hopefully I can show him a better way. I have already shared with him that blogging and social media efforts can be a much more efficient way to start bringing leads to the website that he has already set up. Hopefully he will listen and not get sabotaged.

What would you tell him?

Joe: I have seen this scenario play out many times in my area (with agents not mortgage pros). It takes discipline and patience to blog and use social media, sometimes without results for months, and many do not have that kind of staying power.

You really don't need to tell him anything, Joe.   Just show him the results of your efforts.

Good morning Joe. You can reach more people with a blog in a few minutes than door knocking can produce in a year. Enjoy your day!

Hi Joe.  Seeing is believing.  If showing him your stats doesn't impress then he needs to get a real job.

Good morning Joe.  Times change and so does the may we market.  Not all of the latest and greatest is good for everyone.  Results speak volumes he really needs to get with the program.

Good morning Joe,

You gave the correct advice but as with everything some feel they are the expert and others do not know what they are doing.

Make yourself a great day.

Joe, I have never not helped out a colleague in my business... what goes around comes around and I know if I help someone else, it will come back to me one day with help from someone else when I need it. And when people have questioned why I would "give away my trade secrets," I tell them that I've learned that most people ask for advice and then never do anyting with it anyway.

I do not think that any of the loan officers that I recommend are bloggers. There is much to learn.

Good morning Joe. There are old thinking folks everywhere who don't want to know....it is sad. Good for you for helping.

Maybe he'll listen to your advice. I don't bother anymore telling others about blogging, as they have constantly told me it's a waste of their time...HA~

Joe Petrowsky The truth is that you "help" yout competitors every day. All they need to do is read ALL of your posts. It is all there.

Good morning Joe, based on my personal experience, most will not do as advised, even if they do, it will be short lived. Hope your competition will listen as you are one of the BEST!

Joe Petrowsky Change or new approaches are often difficult for many. Like someone else said show then the results and also educate them that this is what the newer generation is and will be using and you missing a market-share by not addressing it.

Physically showing up to a real estate office to introduce yourself to agents is still an effective way of gaining business but blogging and social media is a more efficient way. They both have their place.

Exactly what you said.  I do think that meeting people face to face is still a good way to get referrals. You do it with BNI.  A

Joe I am an advocate of Social Media, but I am also an advocate of making personal calls on Realtor offices.  More than half of my business comes from Realtor referrals, and I try to stay in front of them as much as possible.  So for me it is a combination of both Social Media and personal calls.

Joe this gent is already stepping out.  He is not taking his bosses advice as written in stone and going to a competitor for advice.  He obviously respects you and wants to move on the path you have walked.  A lot to be said to both of you with this.  Mark
