“Stop Sending Your Newsletter”

“Stop Sending Your Newsletter”

I send out an online newsletter and fortunately it gets a lot of readership and continues to keep me connected to my clients and referral partners.

I recently got an email from someone asking to stop sending the newsletter. That is not something that has happened very often. I decided to email back saying that I would handle it, but wanted to know why the person wanted to be taken off the list. No one is going to take the time unless they were really upset about something.

So I asked if there was a reason the person no longer wanted to receive the newsletters. I didn’t hear anything for a couple of days so I followed up again. This time I got this long email that said he was pissed off about my political beliefs. I had written the blog at one point that was titled, “I Am No Fan of Jeb, Donald or Hillary”.

Wow, that is as good a reason as any I suppose. He went on to tell me that unless Donald Trump gets elected, this country is going to be in big trouble. I guess this was his way of expressing himself.

I thanked him for sharing his thoughts and let him know I honor his opinion and will not send any additional newsletters. That was not quite what I expected for a reason, but one he feels strongly about.

Good Wednesday morning Joe. I totally understand what you're saying. Religion and politics! What more can I say?

Joe: You just never know what thing, big or small, will be the catalyst to get consumers to take action. Preferably they call for assistance but every once in awhile one just cannot let go of something that was said or implied.

Good morning Joe.  Politics and religion are two things that people are headstrong about.  Hardcore Republican here but a little humor doesn't bother me.  However, some people as you have found out are not like me.  Lesson learned

Hello Joe and top of the morning.  I am guessing that may have left you shaking your head a bit.  Make it a great day.  Mark

Hi Joe.  I know, you don't agree with me, but I refrain from posting about politics on this or any other public forum.  But, everyone has the right to do so as long as they understand that some readers will be upset by it.

Yes, I stay away from politics as well as religion.  I bet there are more people that get annoyed but don't tell you.

I do not discuss religion, politics or sports with my clients. In Philadelphia most are fans of Philadelphia Eagles . But we do have people who have other favorite teams.

Good Wednesday morning Joe Petrowsky -

I don't talk politics or religion unless my clients bring it up then I'm still careful. When I've received an opt out email it's never occurred to me to ask why.

Good morning again Joe. I guess my feeling is that if someone wants out I don't need to know why: it won't make things better.

I find it very interesting how we as a nation have become intolerant of each other's points of views.  We feel that the other side or anyone else for that matter is stupid or hateful for espousing something contrary.  I remember both from ny childhood and adulthood spritited debates betwen friends with opposing points of view that ended in laughter, and not fisticuffs.

I was so shocked when we lived in Napa that people who were democrats or republicans hated and insulted each other...and one time we were in a shopping  center close to San Francisco.  There were three blue haired ladies inviting people to sign up to vote as part of the Republican Party.  There were sweet grandmotherly types.  Three young men started in on them calling them names, etc... and insulting them for being part of the party.  Luckily security saved them.

Joe Petrowsky You can't please all the people all the time so why try?

I agree that it is GOOD to show who you are. That way you can deal with like-minded people. They will appreciate you all the more for it.

Joe, it is a shame we can not live in a country and voice our opinions without being disliked.

Joe Petrowsky  I try not to talk politics

Joe- things never change regarding talking religion and politics.  While I try to avoid the topics (not always successfully) it is still everyone's right to freely discuss these topics. You never know what's going to get under someone's skin.

I, too, rarely get a request to take someone off my newsletter list. But I must admit that when it happens it's from a very cold lead so I've never bothered to follow up and ask why. This was one you probably would never have salvaged, in any event.
