“Do You Ever Really Know?”
I ask clients all the time, why they do business with me compared to a bank or credit union? Believe me; over the years I have gotten answers I would not have imagined:
“You sold me a house a few years ago”
“You’re the only one that returned my call”
“I drive by your sign all the time”
“So and so referred me”
All are great, but I don’t learn as much from these answers as I do when I have the opportunity to ask folks that choose to go elsewhere.
Over the years when I ask this question to those that have decided to do business somewhere else, I have received answers such as:
“Banks have better rates than a mortgage broker”
“Mortgage brokers caused the housing crisis”
“You would be charging points and my bank doesn’t”
“I’ll get a mortgage from my bank in a few days”
Do you know what all of this means? There are clients that would deal with me because I am not a bank and there are many clients that would never go to a bank for mortgage. There is lots of business to go around and if you do a good job with your clients they will come back year after year and refer their friends, families and co-workers.
