“I was Being Held Hostage”
I recently purchased a new laptop. All went well transitioning to my new one. This one came loaded with Windows 10, which I was a little hesitant with but it didn’t take me long to get a good handle on it.
I thought my Avast was properly installed, but apparently not and I must have downloaded something that has a virus. From what I was told I got a real doozy. I got locked out of some programs and I wasn’t allowed to access anything. I got an email explaining that if I wanted to access to my data I had to pay a ransom.
What to do? I handled it the way I would handle most situations like this. I emailed back that they could kiss my A$$. This is why; all of my files are backed up 24/7 by Carbonite.
I cleaned everything off my NEW computer, reloaded Avast and opened my Carbonite file. I had all my info and programs back in 55 minutes. For what it cost to have 24/7 back up, it was a bargain compared to how much the hijackers may have wanted.
Do you back up your computer?
